MONEY MATTER
Lombok use Indonesia Rupiah as unit of currency. The Rupiah comes
in paper and coins. Paper denominations are:
100 - 500 (rare) - 1,000 - 2,000 - 5,000 - 10,000 - 20,000 - 50,000 and 100,000 New Nominations: Recent Nominations: Coin denominations are: 50 - 100 - 200 - 500 and 1,000 You can change cash and traveler's checks in major currencies ($, €, ¥, £) at banks and moneychangers in Mataram and in the tourist centers at Senggigi, Gilis and Kuta. The best rates are usually in Senggigi. Personal checks are almost never accepted. The rate of traveler's checks will be less than bank notes. On the local banks the rate is slightly lower than moneychangers. The rates in Lombok also 10% to 15% lower than in Bali but with no commissions. Tips:
Credit Cards: Most larger hotels and some restaurants in Lombok accept credit cards, however smaller hotels and cottages, particularly on the islands will accept cash only. Tipping: A tip of 10-15% to your driver or local tour guide will be appreciated. Airport or hotel porters expect 5000 - 10,000 Rupiah (US $ 0.5 - US $ 1) per bag, depending on the size and weights. Other tipping is entirely optional but if you are happy with services provided, the following guidelines may useful : Hiking Porter : Rp. 25,000 to 35,000 (US $ 2.5 - US $ 3.5) per piece of luggage Driver : Rp. 30,000 to 40,000 (US $ 3 - US $ 4) for day tour Guide : Rp. 35,000 to 60,000 (US $ 3.5 - US $ 6) for day tour Note: Most larger hotels and restaurants automatically add Government Tax and Service and charge up to 21% to the bill
